Houston's return to the Lions does a lot to solidify the team's cornerback situation. He finished with 56 total tackles, 11 passes defended and two interceptions last season.
Houston will start at corner after producing 44 tackles and five picks a year ago for a Detroit secondary that was often a point of weakness last season.
Houston is slated to start at cornerback for the Lions, though he is an uninspiring IDP option.
The Lions have a ton of not-so-noteworthy prospects to play in the secondary, but they obviously are intrigued in Houston as they gave up a sixth-round draft pick to acquire him. He'll get a chance to start for Detroit.
Houston's 2008 campaign of 61 tackles and two interceptions was mediocre at best, but the many coverage mistakes made his season a downright disappointment. He should be the starter again in 2009, but he's hanging on by a thread right now.
The Falcons went the cautious route with Houston last season, but the departure of DeAngelo Hall will force him to step up as a playmaker sooner than planned. He appeared in all 16 games last season and will be starting from day one for the Falcons in 2008.
Houston will compete with Lewis Sanders for the starting cornerback job opposite DeAngelo Hall. With his combination of speed and ability, Houston has a high ceiling, and could emerge as an option in deep IDP leagues. Playing opposite Hall will ensure that he sees plenty of balls thrown in his direction, and his excellent ball skills should translate into interceptions.
