The Lions released Bullocks (knee) on Thursday, FOX Sports' Adam Caplan reports.
ANALYSIS
Bullocks was recovering from a knee injury and was caught in a numbers game on the Lions depth chart. The team had plenty of bodies at safety, so Bullocks paid the price.

Bullocks is trying to come back from the second major knee injury of his short career. He's a solid tackler when healthy, but it's hard to imagine that his speed and agility won't be effected by the injuries. He expects to be healthy enough to compete for a spot once training camp starts.
Bullocks will enter training camp in a neck-and-neck battle with Gerald Alexander for a starting spot in the Lions' backfield. Both have similar skill sets and the competition will likely play out all through the preseason. Bullocks won't likely approach 100 tackles like he did last season, but could still be a productive IDP option should he win the job outright.
Bullocks will start at free safety, provided he's healthy.
The departure of Terrence Holt opened up a full-time starting spot for Bullocks. He played well in his rookie year, piling up 70 tackles and a sack in 15 games, and could develop into a quality IDP. Unfortunately he landed on IR in August.
Bullocks, the Lions' second-round pick out of Nebraska, will get a chance to start right away at free safety. He will have to hold off incumbent Terence Holt, but safety was a problem position for Detroit in 2005, and they drafted Bullocks hoping he'd have an immediate impact.
