Special teams ace will also provide depth at the weak side linebacker position.
Williams will reprise his role as a depth linebacker behind starters Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Pisa Tinoisamoa. He'll likely make his biggest contributions on special teams.
Williams will be the primary backup linebacker for the Bears this season.
Williams is the player who could stand to benefit most from a holdout by Lance Briggs. Williams, a fourth-round pick in 2006, worked with the first-team defense in minicamp and will compete in training camp for Briggs' spot if the two-time Pro Bowler is not present. The former Sun Devil played in just three games as a rookie before being sidelined by a chest injury, but the Bears like his potential and could make him a starter despite his inexperience.
Williams, a fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, should give the Bears some linebacker depth as a rookie.
