ANALYSIS
After a slew of injuries hampered his first three seasons with the team, they decided it was best to part ways. He could get a shot in training camp, but teams will be wary to take a gamble on the injury-prone Calhoun.

Injuries have limited Calhoun, a former third round pick, to just 14 career carries over the past two seasons. However, he enters 2008 fully healthy, and his running skills fit Detroit's newly installed zone-scheme well. He's also a good receiver out of the backfield. Since his only competition for touches is the thoroughly mediocre Tatum Bell and a rookie (Kevin Smith) who is coming off a 450-carry season, it's possible Calhoun gets an opportunity to be the Lions' feature back at some point. He's a deep sleeper with upside if things break his way.
With the additions of Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett, Calhoun likely won't see much time. He's coming off an ACL tear, but with Kevin Jones (foot) status uncertain entering the season, they will keep him around at the very least, but don't expect much out of him this year.
The Lions third round pick figures to be a solid complement to Kevin Jones, working primarily as a third down back. He’s got the skill set for the job, combining soft hands with good speed, acceleration and elusiveness. His size (5-9, 200) may prevent him from being seen as anything other than a third-down back, however. Two factors give him some very nice upside: Jones’ potential health issues, and Mike Martz’s impact on the Detroit offense. Jones owners especially should do everything they can to land him.
