Snyder will sign with the Giants on Wednesday, ESPN reports.

ANALYSIS
Snyder spent last season with the 49ers, for whom he started four of 16 games played. The nine-year veteran's signing could result in left guard Geoff Schwartz (toe) being placed on the Giants' injured reserve/designated to return list, although that roster decision has yet to be made. However, with New York desperate for help along their offensive line, Snyder's ability to play multiple positions fills a pressing need.

The 49ers do not have a need for Snyder at the tackle position, and his value at guard or center is minimal. The 49ers waived him for this reason in August 2014.

The ninth-year lineman returns to the 49ers after a season in Arizona and will reprise his role as a back-up to Joe Staley and Anthony Davis.

Snyder will start at right guard in 2012.

Snyder will provide depth on the offensive line.

Snyder will battle during training camp to try to hold off first-round pick Anthony Davis for his job as starting right tackle.

Snyder will back-up Marvel Smith at right tackle.

Snyder is expected to be the 49ers' starting RG in 2008.

Snyder saw time at right and left tackle last season and could get a shot at starting at left tackle in 2007 if the the oft-injured Jonas Jennings is sidelined again or at right tackle in place of the ineffective Kwame Harris if Joe Staley is not ready to start.

Moving from his natural left tackle to right tackle spot in 2006, where he will compete with Kwame Harris to be the starter.
