It looks like the veteran Vasher is in line the serve as the third corner or nickle back this season, although with the way corners tend to fall into and out of favor in this league, he could wind up starting at some point this year.
Vasher dealt with a wrist injury for most of last season before being placed on IR in November. His injury allowed for the emergence of Corey Graham, who could end up starting ahead of him this season. Vasher will certainly factor in the secondary, but he's not an impact IDP entering the season.
While he doesn't have the ball-hawking credentials of fellow starter Charles Tillman, Vasher was pretty reliable in the interception department before suffering through an injury-plagued 2007. He's not going to put up big tackle numbers, but he could develop into an IDP if the picks are there this season.
After intercepting five passes as a rookie in 2004 and following that up with eight picks in '05, Vasher came back down to earth last year with just three INTs. Though not the turnover creator the Bears were hoping him to be last season, Vasher still played well as one of the team's starting cornerbacks, recording 45 tackles. He once again will start alongside Charles Tillman this year.
Vasher can create turnovers at a rate that most defensive backs can only dream of. After he picked off five passes as a rookie in 2004, the corner had a whopping eight interceptions last season, also recording 46 total tackles. Vasher, who is slated to start at right cornerback, quickly is becoming one of the NFL's most feared DBs and should post another solid INT total this year.
There may not be a more exciting player on the Bears' roster than Vasher. The rookie burst onto the NFL scene last season, leading the team with five interceptions and making plays all over the field. Vasher enters the year as the team's nickel corner and also its main backup to starting cornerbacks Charles Tillman and Jerry Azumah. The turnover-creating former Longhorn is a favorite of the Chicago coaching staff and should see a lot of playing time in 2005. He is definitely a fantasy sleeper in IDP leagues.
