Johnson has announced his retirement, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was never the pass-rushing threat that most teams look for in a 3-4 outside linebacker, but he still managed to play 184 games over 12 seasons for the Ravens and Chargers. He was a solid run defender for both teams, and he finished his career with 506 tackles (350 solo) and 25.5 sacks.

Johnson is the starting strong-side outside linebacker in San Diego and is viewed as a dependable, important player for the unit. He was limited to 11 games in 2013 but managed to post three sacks. In the six seasons prior to last year, he averaged a healthy 56 tackles per year.
Johnson comes to the Chargers as a free agent and should immediately start at one outside linebacker spot. Johnson is a well-respected, hard-nosed veteran who has played in 130 consecutive games, but he has never really put up huge statistics in any given season.
Johnson is penciled in as a starting outside linebacker in 2012, but Larry English will also be in the mix for significant action, so it remains to be seen exactly how the Bolts will split the playing time. Johnson was always a solid player in Baltimore and will certainly help shore up the unit, but his 60 or so tackles per year probably make him a borderline IDP option at best.
Johnson enjoyed a career high 73 total tackles last season. That should be considered a ceiling, however, especially with Johnson turning 30 this season.
Johnson had a solid 2009, recording 50 tackles, six sacks and two interceptions. The picks may have been an anomaly, he had only one in six seasons prior, but his returns are otherwise consistent even if unspectacular.
Johnson will once again start at outside linebacker providing solid, though not spectacular numbers for an IDP. Last season he recorded five sacks to go along with 57 tackles.
Johnson should be considered a sleeper IDP. He was a stalwart in run defense last season, notching 58 tackles and two sacks.
With Adalius Thomas gone, Johnson is being asked to step into the hybrid linebacker/defensive end role. Already agile for his size, Johnson shed 15 pounds to gain some quickness.
Not much of a pass-rusher despite being a defensive end.
Backup left defensive end.
