There is a chance the Steelers re-sign McDonald this week, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
ANALYSIS
Hines Ward might not play against the Browns in Week 14, leaving the Steelers with just three healthy wide receivers. McDonald was recently released by Pittsburgh, so he's the likely candidate to be signed should the Steelers need a fourth receiver.

McDonald comes to the Steel City after a disappointing 2008 with the Lions. He will vie for the third spot on the wide receiver depth chart as he tries to fend off Limas Sweed. McDonald's experience might give him an edge in the battle, which could result in some modest stats. Whoever wins the day won't post high-end numbers but could be in line to scoop up stats similar to Nate Washington, who was the third-string receiver for Pittsburgh in 2008 (600-plus yards, three touchdowns).
McDonald emerged last season as a viable option after Roy Williams went down. He will open the year as the third receiver, but will have to keep Mike Furrey at bay to keep the spot. The Lions will also likely employ less three-wideout sets under new offensive coordinator Jim Colletto.
McDonald came over from the Rams and rejoins Mike Martz, his former head coach in St. Louis. He slots fourth at best on the depth chart, but Martz' affinity for the pass is well known, and he is very familiar with McDonald. He won't make a huge fantasy impact, but he could have a big game here or there in Martz' creative passing game.
McDonald was unable to overtake Kevin Curtis for the No. 3 receiver job but did secure the job as primary punt returner. That translates into minimal fantasy value only if Torry Holt or Issac Bruce go down for an extended period or if he starts running back a punt for a touchdown every game.
Mac had a solid sophomore season in the league last year with 37 receptions for 494 yards and three touchdowns but currently sits fourth on the team`s WR depth chart.
McDonald should push Dane Looker for the number three wideout spot this summer but we wouldn't recommend picking up the ASU grad unless injuries hit the Rams hard.
Rookie receiver expected to start the year as No. 4 on the team depth chart.
