June 17, 2009
Bailey (knee) was released by the Broncos on Wednesday, the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Bailey started six games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was unable to participate in any offseason practices while rehabbing form microfracture surgery. "I wasn't really surprised by it. I understand how the business goes," Bailey said. "It's a business call. I appreciate everything they've done for me since I've been here. Once you're a Bronco, you're always a Bronco."

Bailey joins his brother Champ on the defensive unit for the Broncos and will start as the strong side linebacker, although he is not expected to produce anywhere near the stats his brother can. He has averaged 66 tackles per season over his four year career.
Bailey didn't have a great statistical year in 2006, registering 65 tackles and one sack, but he's a prime piece in the Cover Two defense run by the Lions. He'll start at strong-side linebacker.
With the Lions shifting to the Cover Two defense, Bailey shifts from strong side to middle linebacker to capitalize on his speed. He missed five games in 2005 due to knee and ankle injuries, but he is fully recovered and is a quality IDP option for 2006.
Boss missed the entire 2004 season after injuring his knee in training camp. He's fully recovered and is looking to build on his rookie campaign of 2003 in which he started all 16 games. He may not have the best nickname in his family (his older brother is Broncos CB Champ Bailey), but Boss figures to be a key part of a deep linebacking corps in Detroit.
Bailey started 16 games a season ago and registered 109 tackles, including 73 solos, as well as 1.5 sacks and an interception. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. More will be expected of him this time around.
Bailey will be given a chance in training camp to earn a starting job as a linebacker. He was a second-round selection in the 2003 draft.
