Smith was cut by the Jets in August and is now on the lookout for a new job with another team.
Smith often outplayed starter Jamal Lewis last year in Baltimore, albeit in an extremely small sample size. With Willis McGahee on board, Smith lost whatever chance he had to become the Ravens’ feature back. Despite Mike Anderson’s presence, Smith should be next in line for carries and could be on the field quite a bit on third downs. He underwent offseason neck surgery but should be healthy entering 2007.
Smith missed most of last season with a knee injury and has been sidelined for most of his professional career with injuries. He's the Ravens' third running back behind two veterans in Mike Anderson and Jamal Lewis.
An inability to stay healthy has long hampered Smith, both at the college and NFL level. Chester Taylor clearly has won the top backup job over Smith at this point.
Smith enters the season as the Ravens' third running back. He will compete with Chester Taylor for playing time. While Smith has a similar style to Lewis, Taylor is a back who relies more on his quickness.
Smith will be battling for backup honors to Jamal Lewis. If he wins the backup job, then he will have some fantasy worth, especially if you have Lewis on your roster.
