Seymour dealt with hamstring trouble for much of last year and played only 13 games. He finished with 48 tackles (36 solo) and 5.5 sacks, numbers that translate roughly to 59 tackles and 6.5 sacks over a full season. It’s probably best not to expect any more than that from Seymour, however, as he has never hit the 60-tackle mark in his 10-year career.

Seymour is a very good defensive end, but his name is a bit bigger than his fantasy value. Expect him to provide decent tackle numbers and good run defense, but keep in mind he's never had more than eight sacks in a season and had only four in his first year with the Raiders in 2009.

Seymour, who managed to play in 15 games last season, is a key cog on the Pats' defensive line, which is a strength for the team when its key members are together. He remains a beast of a player who opposing teams need to game-plan around, and last year he racked up eight sacks -- his highest total since 2003. He's not going to get much more than 50-55 tackles, but he is entering the last year of his contract, so if you believe in guys playing for their next deal, then Seymour is one to keep in mind.

A healthy Seymour -- and that's what he is heading into training camp -- is of vital importance to the Pats' defensive line, which is a huge strength for the team when its key components are on the field. He's a beast of a player who opposing teams need to game-plan around, but that doesn't necessarily translate into big IDP numbers, as his career-high in tackles is 57 and sacks is eight.

Seymour is a force for offensive lines to reckon with, but he is a classic example of a player who is far more valuable in real terms than as an IDP. He has the ability to dominate games and forces offenses to plan around him, but he neither gets enough tackles (40 in 2006) or rack up enough sacks (four last year) to satisfy fantasy owners.

The Pats don't like to throw money around, as evidenced by the way they allowed the likes of Adam Vinatieri and David Givens to walk as free agents this past offseason, but it was a no-brainer for the team to lock Seymour into a long-term deal in April -- a four-year extension in reportedly worth $30-million. Seymour has earned a Pro Bowl berth in each of the last four seasons and while his IDP value isn't nearly as high as it is in real terms -- around 50 tackles and a half dozen sacks is a typical season for him -- he anchors a team defense that should make enough plays to be a viable fantasy unit this season.
