Lynch, who accepted a pay cut this offseason to stay with the team, will be the starting free safety. However, he is coming off his lowest tackle total for a season in over a decade and this figures to be his last season in the league.
Lynch continues to grow older, but he remains confident his skill are not diminishing. He will start at free saftey for the Broncos, and try to show the team that he is every bit as good as he ever was.
One of the hardest hitting safeties in the league, Lynch is always around the ball and continues to play at a high level. More is expected of him this season as the team looks to be more aggressive on defense. You can probably get him cheap in the deep individual defensive player leagues.
Lynch may be past his prime but the Broncos will welcome his leadership and veteran presence. He'll likely open the season at strong safety over last season's starter Kenoy Kennedy. There are concerns about his neck, which landed him on injured reserve in 2003 while he was with Tampa Bay, but so far so good.
One of the enduring images from the highlights of the Bucs' Super Bowl win was Lynch saying on the sidelines, "everything they're (the Raiders) are running, we've seen in practice," a testament to how well prepared the Bucs were in the blowout win. Lynch had only three picks (and no return yards) in 2002, as QBs simply don't throw his way any more. He'll be a key part in the Bucs' defense in 2003, but we don't foresee him being one of the league's interception leaders.
