Morgan (knee) has been released by the Vikings, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
ANALYSIS
A knee injury derailed the tight end's 2019 season and the 2016 sixth-rounder will now look to catch on elsewhere as a depth option. Through 38 NFL contests, the 26-year-old has hauled in 16 passes for 135 yards and a TD.

Morgan (knee) remains on the PUP list, having undergone arthroscopic knee surgery in June. It was reported that the 26-year-old tight end would be ready in time for training camp, but he has yet to make a contribution on the field this preseason. The procedure was described as a "clean up" to be proactive in getting him back to 100 percent from a lingering issue that cost him time in 2018. To this point there has been no report of any setback.
Morgan played a mix of offense and special teams (where he also filled in at long snapper), never exceeding three targets in a contest. Kyle Rudolph will continue to handle the bulk of the load at tight end for the foreseeable future, so Morgan's role will be small as the No 2 tight end. However, his role in the passing game may increase and he could have viable fantasy value if Rudolph is injured.
The 2016 sixth-round pick out of UTSA made the Vikings' final roster as a rookie, but Morgan caught just one pass for four yards throughout 12 games played. MyCole Pruitt was signed off the practice squad by the Bears and Rhett Ellison was lost in free agency, both of whom were originally above Morgan on the depth chart at tight end, but Minnesota added Bucky Hodges during the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. It would've been a longshot for Morgan to see many targets behind starter Kyle Rudolph in the first place, and with Hodges now in the picture as well, Morgan's fantasy value remains extremely limited.
Morgan comes into Minnesota as a sixth-rounder and 2015 second-team All-American out of UTSA, where he racked up 45 receptions for 566 yards and five touchdowns as a senior. He'll be buried on the Vikings' tight end depth chart behind Kyle Rudolph, Mycole Pruitt and Rhett Ellison given he makes the final roster, so any fantasy value will be hard to come by throughout his rookie campaign in 2016.
