Signed a one-year deal with the 49ers for what will be his 15th season with the team. Expected to line up as the starting left defensive end in the team's 3-4 scheme. Had 51 total tackles (42 solo), his most in several years, and 5.5 sacks in 2006 but a repeat performance of those numbers might be a challenge given the new scheme and Young's age.
Ol' man river just keeps going. Missed three games with a torn MCL in right knee but was the 49ers' best defensive lineman. The only remaining player from the team's last Super Bowl victory in 1995 and had 32 tackles in eight sacks. If healthy, could have similar numbers this year,
Had a phenomenal rebound year in 2004 and is now making the transition from defensive tackle to end in the team's 3-4 scheme. If he qualifies at tackle, grab him in your fantasy league, since he should have solid sack and tackle numbers.
Young had another disappointing season in 2003, finishing with 35 tackles and and four sacks in 15 games. Injuries have taken their toll on him and last year was no different as he battled an ankle injury and turf toe nearly all season. Look elsewhere for an impact defensive lineman even though Young will start at right defensive tackle.
Young had an off season in 2002 finishing with only 2 sacks and 36 tackles. Young was hampered by a shoulder injury that required surgery after the season and he changed his training regimen to get into better shape for the 2003 campaign. Without Dana Stubblefield, much of the load on the inside will fall to Young and he should respond with a solid campaign. Look for 50 tackles and 6-8 sacks.
