Prosise was released by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prosise suited up for a career-high 10 games last season with the Texans, but he mostly handled a special-teams role. The 2016 third-round pick will likely test the market, though a practice squad role seems most likely.

Prosise is a capable dual-threat running back, but injuries have plagued his career and the 2018 campaign was no different, as he was kept to just one carry for negative yardage and three catches for 22 yards. Opportunities were scarce for Prosise last year, but Mike Davis left for Chicago in free agency, and Prosise beat out J.D. McKissic for the third running back spot in the backfield. Prosise showed promise early in his career and looked solid in preseason, but he'll have an uphill climb to usurp 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny from the No. 2 role.
After being selected by Seattle in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Prosise has battled groin and ankle injuries and suited up for just 11 games in two seasons. In 2017, Prosise rushed 11 times for 23 yards (2.1 YPC) and caught six of 11 targets for 87 yards and zero total scores through five contests. Prosise's window to contribute to the Seahawks may be closing, too, as they picked up running back Rashaad Penny in the first round of this year's draft. Prosise may be scrambling for passing-down reps.
Wrist and shoulder injuries limited Prosise to only six games in his rookie season, but he showed his upside with 153 yards from scrimmage against the Patriots in Week 10. A wide receiver converted to running back in his final year of college, he has good size but runs with more finesse than power, using his speed and agility to avoid tacklers and get into the open field. He's also still learning the finer points of his position, sometimes hesitating in the hole and still needing work in pass protection. The Seahawks signed Eddie Lacy in the offseason to handle early down work, and Thomas Rawls is still capable of taking snaps when he's healthy, but Prosise could settle in this season as a dangerous receiving option for Russell Wilson out of the backfield, assuming he's able to avoid further injury himself.
It's funny to see Prosise compared to the estimable Fred Jackson, as the Seahawks had the last glimpse of Jackson during the 2015 season. Prosise only played one year of running back at Notre Dame — he converted from wide receiver — but quickly became comfortable, rolling up 6.6 yards a carry and 11.8 a catch. The Seahawks snapped him up in the third round, the fourth running back selected. He's already the best pass-catching back Seattle has, and he could be in for a meatier role if Thomas Rawls can't recover quickly from an ankle injury. The team has been especially guarded with Rawls' status, but there's some concern he might miss the entire preseason. Christine Michael is also in the mix and has the experience edge on Prosise. We won't blame anyone who makes Prosise a higher priority than Michael.

ANALYSIS
Prosise had already worked out for the Lions and Bears this month, leaving both squads without a contract. David Johnson and Duke Johnson are entrenched as the clear top two options in the Texans' backfield, but the team has a need for a quality No. 3 option.
