Nelson signed a one-year deal with Houston prior to the 2022 season, then served as a starter and had a strong season for a porous Houston defense. He recorded 52 tackles and one interception in 15 games. The 30-year-old Nelson, looking for a raise, sat out the non-mandatory offseason activities. There was some public acrimony and a sense the two sides would part ways, but the organization blinked and signed him to a two-year deal. Prior to the deal, Nelson had reported to the mandatory offseason sessions and ran with the first-team defense in camp. He figures to start opposite Derek Stingley but first must compete with Shaquill Griffin and Desmond King for the job.
There was a slight decline statistically for Nelson in his first season with the Steelers, but he still managed to make 61 tackles and have two takeaways. He will again take up residency as the starting right cornerback on a stud-filled defensive unit, but typically does not generate the kind of numbers to be a significant contributor in IDP fantasy formats.
The newest addition to the Pittsburgh secondary, Nelson finished tied for 7th in the league with four interceptions in 2018. This is a welcome addition to a team that ranked 28th in the league with just eight interceptions and makes him an attractive IDP option.
Nelson started seven of the nine games he appeared in last season, racking up 41 tackles (33 solo) and a forced fumble for the Chiefs. With Marcus Peters gone to Los Angeles, Nelson is slated to start opposite Kendall Fuller in 2018.
Nelson was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, and will likely battle for snaps as the nickelback in 2015.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Considered priority signing
CBHouston Texans
April 13, 2022
Texans head coach Lovie Smith said signing Nelson on Wednesday was a move made to improve the team's cornerback position this offseason, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. "Our play at the cornerback position last year was not good enough, it's as simple as that," Smith said. "We can't play the type of football that we want to play until we get better at the cornerback position, I will say that."
ANALYSIS
Nelson started opposite Darius Slay in Philadelphia last season and compiled 50 tackles, one interception and six additional pass breakups across 16 games while allowing a 59.6 percent completion rate in primary coverage. The Texans ranked 22nd in the NFL last season with 242.2 passing yards per game allowed, while the 66.5 percent completion rate the team conceded was the eighth-highest mark in the league. Smith was the team's defensive coordinator in 2021, giving him a particularly close view of the situation.
