Hunt has spent parts of his two NFL seasons on Houston's practice squad while also being activated to the main roster both years. His contributions have been limited to a productive couple of drives in a few games but the coaching staff trusts him. At least they did until a two-fumble game in Week 14 last season. Hunt is a small and shifty back who returns kicks, putting him in direct competition with 2016 draft pick Tyler Ervin. There was room on the roster for both backs during the second half of 2016, but it appears an injury will be needed for both Hunt and Ervin to break camp with the Texans.
Hunt was an undrafted free agent out of Purdue who didn't sign until November when the Texans added him to practice roster. Two weeks later, he was promoted to the active roster and played in the final seven games of the regular season and the playoff loss to Kansas City. The former Boilermaker is noted for his speed and elusiveness, which makes Hunt redundant in the backfield with 2016 fourth-round draft pick Tyler Ervin. Ervin is expected to be a returner on special teams, which may give him an edge when finalizing the opening-day roster. The question became would the Texans reserve roster spots for both, but they didn't, cutting Hunt after the fourth preseason game. He re-signed to practice squad one day after being released and will be on hand should any injuries crop up.
Reserve running back, long shot to make the roster.

To work out with Giants
RBFree Agent
October 10, 2019
Hunt will participate in a workout with the Giants on Friday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants are short-handed at running back given the injuries to Wayne Gallman (concussion) and Saquon Barkley (ankle). However, they'll have a long week to recover prior to their Week 7 matchup against the Cardinals. Considering that at least one -- if not both -- of Barkley or Gallman should be ready to return by then, the timing of the workout is a bit curious. Hunt last played in the NFL in 2017 as a member of the Chiefs, though he's never logged more than 20 carries in season.
