Sunday Update complete
Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.
Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:
- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.
These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out the rankings first before asking your start/sit question. This truly reflects my opinion in my leagues.
These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.
Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff

Quarterbacks
1. | Patrick Mahomes KC at BAL |
2. | Kyler Murray ARZ vs. MIN |
3. | Josh Allen BUF at MIA |
4. | Dak Prescott DAL at LAC |
5. | *Justin Herbert LAC vs. DAL Note: Bumping up with the sweet matchup. |
6. | Russell Wilson SEA vs. TEN |
7. | *Lamar Jackson BAL vs. KC Note: Jackson had two costly fumbles Monday night, one while scrambling, the other while being sacked. It looks like LT Ronnie Stanley (ankle) will be out. |
8. | Tom Brady TB vs. ATL |
9. | *Aaron Rodgers GB vs. DET Note: Wow, I got that Week 1 matchup against the Saints completely wrong. The good news is that the Packers can immediately make amends against the porous Lions defense. |
10. | Jalen Hurts PHI vs. SF |
11. | Matthew Stafford LA at IND |
12. | *Joe Burrow CIN at CHI Note: This was a pretty good debut for Burrow, though at one point he needed some time on a stationary bike to stay loose after taking a couple of hits. |
13. | Baker Mayfield CLE vs. HOU |
14. | *Ryan Tannehill TEN at SEA Note: Tannehill was under siege from the Arizona pass rush all game - that bodes ill for future matchups outside of the AFC South. |
15. | Matt Ryan ATL at TB |
16. | Teddy Bridgewater DEN at JAX |
17. | Kirk Cousins MIN at ARI |
18. | Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. LV |
19. | Trevor Lawrence JAC vs. DEN |
20. | *Taylor Heinicke WAS vs. NYG Note: Heinicke will take over for the injured Ryan Fitzpatrick. He brings some mobility to the table, but I wonder how he'll fare once opponents see more tape on him. |
21. | *Derek Carr LV at PIT Note: Carr put up monster fantasy numbers Monday night, even if he had some moments during the game that were not so great. Teammate Marcus Mariota has a quad injury that placed him on IR, so at least for the next three weeks, the Raiders won't be taking Carr out for any gadget or goal line plays. |
22. | Jameis Winston NO at CAR |
23. | Sam Darnold CAR vs. NO |
24. | *Jimmy Garoppolo SF at PHI Note: Garoppolo fumbled the first offensive snap, and then Trey Lance accounted for an early touchdown, raising hopes/concerns depending on your viewpoint. But then Garoppolo cruised the rest of the way. |
25. | *Daniel Jones NYG at WAS Note: Jones had a decent enough fantasy day, but coughed up another soul-killing fumble in the red zone that shifted the game against the Broncos last week. |
26. | Tyrod Taylor HOU at CLE |
27. | Jared Goff DET at GB |
28. | Mac Jones NE at NYJ |
29. | Tua Tagovailoa MIA vs. BUF |
30. | Zach Wilson NYJ vs. NE |
31. | Carson Wentz IND vs. LAR |
32. | *Andy Dalton CHI vs. CIN Note: Dalton's night went predictably poorly against the Rams - will he get his chance at a full 'revenge game' against the Bengals this week? |
33. | Trey Lance SF at PHI |
34. | *Justin Fields CHI vs. CIN Note: Fields played only five snaps Sunday night, but at least he accounted for one of the two Bears touchdowns with a three-yard rush in the red zone. |
35. | Taysom Hill NO at CAR |
36. | *Ryan Fitzpatrick WAS vs. NYG Note: Out 6-to-8 weeks with a right hip subluxation and has been placed on IR. Taylor Heinicke gets the start. |
Running Backs
1. | Christian McCaffrey CAR vs. NO |
2. | Aaron Jones GB vs. DET |
3. | Alvin Kamara NO at CAR |
4. | Nick Chubb CLE vs. HOU |
5. | Austin Ekeler LAC vs. DAL |
6. | Jonathan Taylor IND vs. LAR |
7. | Derrick Henry TEN at SEA |
8. | Dalvin Cook MIN at ARI |
9. | Ezekiel Elliott DAL at LAC |
10. | David Montgomery CHI vs. CIN |
11. | *Miles Sanders PHI vs. SF Note: Sanders received a rest day Wednesday, under the guise of ankle soreness, but practiced fully Thursday. |
12. | Chris Carson SEA vs. TEN |
13. | *Antonio Gibson WAS vs. NYG Note: Gibson hurt his shoulder in the loss to the Chargers but was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. |
14. | Najee Harris PIT vs. LV |
15. | Joe Mixon CIN at CHI |
16. | *D'Andre Swift DET at GB Note: Remember the multiple freak outs during draft season, leading up to the false report that Jamaal Williams would get the majority of snaps and touches on Sunday morning? That was fun. (Groin) Limited on Thursday - similar to how he was limited in training camp. ***Swift is listed as questionable, but had a full practice on Saturday.*** |
17. | *Darrell Henderson LA at IND Note: ***Henderson played 94 percent of the Rams' offensive snaps last week, and there's no sign that workload will abate this week.*** |
18. | Damien Harris NE at NYJ |
19. | Melvin Gordon DEN at JAX |
20. | Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at BAL |
21. | James Robinson JAC vs. DEN |
22. | *Ty'Son Williams BAL vs. KC Note: Williams split the carries pretty evenly with Latavius Murray, but also caught three of his four targets. Will continue to split the carries with Latavius Murray, and Devonta Freeman will be the third back. |
23. | *Ronald Jones TB vs. ATL Note: Jones got buried after losing a fumble in the season-opener on Thursday night, but he's still atop the depth chart for this week's game. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs try to get him on track against a woeful Falcons run defense. |
24. | Kareem Hunt CLE vs. HOU |
25. | *Elijah Mitchell SF at PHI Note: Mitchell will be the top FAAB target in most leagues this week after he ran for 104 yards following Raheem Mostert's injury. I think he gets the first crack at the starting job this week, though eventually Trey Sermon will get a chance. |
26. | Javonte Williams DEN at JAX |
27. | Myles Gaskin MIA vs. BUF |
28. | Chase Edmonds ARZ vs. MIN |
29. | *Jamaal Williams DET at GB Note: Williams (chest) was limited at Thursday's practice. The Lions play on Monday night, so this was just their first practice of the week. ***Williams was cleared from the injury list on Saturday after a full practice.*** |
30. | *Kenyan Drake LV at PIT Note: Drake was very active in the passing game, with five catches for 59 yards. With Jacobs banged up, Drake could get more work this week. ***Jacobs has been ruled out, so Drake gets bumped up, and I also added Peyton Barber.*** |
31. | Leonard Fournette TB vs. ATL |
32. | *Saquon Barkley NYG at WAS Note: Barkley (knee) was able to make it through Week 1 without any injury setbacks, but he also failed to get untracked against the Broncos. He was listed as an 'estimated limited participant' in Tuesday's walkthrough practice. Barkley was listed as questionable, but is still active. Nonetheless, I expect him to be really limited. |
33. | *Latavius Murray BAL vs. KC Note: Splitting carries with Ty'Son Williams, though Devonta Freeman will also be part of the mix. |
34. | *Mike Davis ATL at TB Note: ***Like the player, hate the matchup this week.*** |
35. | James Conner ARZ vs. MIN |
36. | Mark Ingram HOU at CLE |
37. | *Devin Singletary BUF at MIA Note: ***Zack Moss will likely suit up this week after being a healthy scratch last week, so you many not be able to start Singletary with confidence.*** |
38. | Nyheim Hines IND vs. LAR |
39. | Tevin Coleman NYJ vs. NE |
40. | *Kenneth Gainwell PHI vs. SF Note: Gainwell was pretty clearly the backup to Miles Sanders and even took away a goal line carry, whereas Boston Scott didn't see the field on any offensive snaps. |
41. | *Peyton Barber LV at PIT Note: ***Added to the list with Josh Jacobs ruled out on Friday.*** |
42. | *Larry Rountree LAC vs. DAL Note: Rountree was the top backup behind Austin Ekeler, even getting carries on the Chargers' first drive. Justin Jackson did see some work. |
43. | Phillip Lindsay HOU at CLE |
44. | AJ Dillon GB vs. DET |
45. | James White NE at NYJ |
46. | *Sony Michel LA at IND Note: Played only three offensive snaps in Week 1, but presumably will get a little more work later this season. Still, a big downgrade here. |
47. | J.D. McKissic WAS vs. NYG |
48. | Tony Jones NO at CAR |
49. | Carlos Hyde JAC vs. DEN |
50. | Damien Williams CHI vs. CIN |
51. | Devontae Booker NYG at WAS |
52. | *Rhamondre Stevenson NE at NYJ Note: Played only five snaps in Week 1, after losing a fumble and getting blown up in pass protection. |
53. | Tony Pollard DAL at LAC |
54. | David Johnson HOU at CLE |
55. | Michael Carter NYJ vs. NE |
56. | Alexander Mattison MIN at ARI |
57. | *Zack Moss BUF at MIA Note: Moss was a surprise healthy inactive last week, giving ground to Matt Breida. ***It appears likely that Moss will suit up this week after being a healthy scratch last week, but that doesn't ensure playing time. It does, however, cloud the picture for Devin Singletary.*** |
58. | Ty Johnson NYJ vs. NE |
59. | Samaje Perine CIN at CHI |
60. | Giovani Bernard TB vs. ATL |
61. | Jaret Patterson WAS vs. NYG |
62. | *Darrel Williams KC at BAL Note: Only one carry in Week 1, though that was one more than Jerick McKinnon. |
63. | Cordarrelle Patterson ATL at TB |
64. | Chuba Hubbard CAR vs. NO |
65. | Justin Jackson LAC vs. DAL |
66. | Jeremy McNichols TEN at SEA |
67. | Salvon Ahmed MIA vs. BUF |
68. | Wayne Gallman ATL at TB |
69. | Kylin Hill GB vs. DET |
70. | Malcolm Brown MIA vs. BUF |
71. | *Alex Collins SEA vs. TEN Note: Inactive last week, but with Rashaad Penny likely out this week, Collins should play some. |
72. | *Trey Sermon SF at PHI Note: Sermon was a surprise healthy scratch last week. Will he be part of the mix this week, or remain in the doghouse? |
73. | *JaMycal Hasty SF at PHI Note: Hasty scored last week, but had just that one carry and one reception in the win over the Lions. |
74. | *Devonta Freeman BAL vs. KC Note: Activated from the practice squad. |
75. | *Le'Veon Bell at Note: Remains on the practice squad, behind Devonta Freeman, who just got activated. |
76. | *Rashaad Penny SEA vs. TEN Note: Penny is likely out for Week 2 with a calf injury. |
77. | *Josh Jacobs LV at PIT Note: Jacobs (toe/ankle) didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday. ***Ruled out on Friday.*** |
78. | *Raheem Mostert SF at PHI Note: Mostert suffered cartilage damage in his knee and will have surgery to repair the damage. His season is over. |
Wide Receivers
1. | Tyreek Hill KC at BAL |
2. | DK Metcalf SEA vs. TEN |
3. | Davante Adams GB vs. DET |
4. | DeAndre Hopkins ARZ vs. MIN |
5. | Calvin Ridley ATL at TB |
6. | Keenan Allen LAC vs. DAL |
7. | *A.J. Brown TEN at SEA Note: Brown (knee) was limited Wednesday but practiced fully on Thursday. |
8. | Stefon Diggs BUF at MIA |

19. | Adam Thielen MIN at ARI |

25. | Ja'Marr Chase CIN at CHI |

38. | Kenny Golladay NYG at WAS |
39. | Brandin Cooks HOU at CLE |
40. | DeVonta Smith PHI vs. SF |
41. | Laviska Shenault JAC vs. DEN |
42. | *Brandon Aiyuk SF at PHI Note: Aiyuk is in a tricky spot this week - he might be in the coach's doghouse, judging by Kyle Shanahan's comments and how Aiyuk was used in practice early in the week. |
43. | Marquez Callaway NO at CAR |
44. | Jakobi Meyers NE at NYJ |
45. | Christian Kirk ARZ vs. MIN |
46. | *Jaylen Waddle MIA vs. BUF Note: ***Waddle will get another start with Will Fuller declared out this week.*** |

52. | Jalen Reagor PHI vs. SF |

56. | *Michael Pittman IND vs. LAR Note: ***Pittman was added to the injury report with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable, though he is expected to play.*** |

67. | *Donovan Peoples-Jones CLE vs. HOU Note: ***I'm moving DPJ up with Beckham out and Schwartz listed as questionable.*** |

69. | Chase Edmonds ARZ vs. MIN |
70. | Myles Gaskin MIA vs. BUF |
72. | *Tim Patrick DEN at JAX Note: Patrick scored last week and should have a bigger role while Jerry Jeudy is out. |
73. | Kenny Golladay NYG at WAS |
74. | Brandin Cooks HOU at CLE |
75. | DeVonta Smith PHI vs. SF |

87. | Rob Gronkowski TB vs. ATL |
88. | Mark Ingram HOU at CLE |
89. | *Devin Singletary BUF at MIA Note: ***Zack Moss will likely suit up this week after being a healthy scratch last week, so you many not be able to start Singletary with confidence.*** |
90. | *Brandon Aiyuk SF at PHI Note: Aiyuk is in a tricky spot this week - he might be in the coach's doghouse, judging by Kyle Shanahan's comments and how Aiyuk was used in practice early in the week. |
91. | *Michael Pittman IND vs. LAR Note: ***Pittman was added to the injury report with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable, though he is expected to play.*** |
92. | *Jaylen Waddle MIA vs. BUF Note: ***Waddle will get another start with Will Fuller declared out this week.*** |

11. | Matt Gay LA at IND |
12. | *Chase McLaughlin CLE vs. HOU Note: McLaughlin (hamstring) made it through Week 1 unscathed. |
13. | *Greg Zuerlein DAL at LAC Note: Rough season debut on Thursday night - missed XP came back to haunt the Cowboys. |
14. | Chris Boswell PIT vs. LV |
15. | Graham Gano NYG at WAS |
16. | *Greg Joseph MIN at ARI Note: 'Vikings kicker makes clutch 53-yarder' - it's true! |

20. | Brandon McManus DEN at JAX |
21. | Josh Lambo JAC vs. DEN |

23. | Dustin Hopkins WAS vs. NYG |
24. | Cairo Santos CHI vs. CIN |
25. | *Tristan Vizcaino LAC vs. DAL Note: ***Vizcaino was limited in practice with an illness early in the week but fully practiced Friday.*** |

30. | Matt Ammendola NYJ vs. NE |
31. | *Zane Gonzalez CAR vs. NO Note: Gonzalez was signed by the Panthers to replace Ryan Santoso. |
32. | *Joey Slye HOU at CLE Note: Reverted back to the practice squad on Monday, but Fairbairn is on the IR to begin the season so Slye probably will be reinstated for Week 2. ***Elevated back to the active roster on Saturday.*** |
33. | *Quinn Nordin NE at NYJ Note: It was Folk and not Nordin who did the kicking in Week 1. ***Nordin was placed on IR with an abdomen injury.*** |
Defenses
1. | *Cleveland Browns vs. HOU Note: I'm not buying the Texans at all after their win over Jacksonville. This is a good time to buy low on the Cleveland defense. |
2. | Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. ATL |
3. | *Washington Football Team vs. NYG Note: Hosting Daniel Jones on short rest seems pretty inviting to me. |
4. | Los Angeles Rams at IND |

6. | Arizona Cardinals vs. MIN |

10. | Seattle Seahawks vs. TEN |
11. | Buffalo Bills at MIA |
12. | New York Giants at WAS |
13. | Philadelphia Eagles vs. SF |
14. | *New Orleans Saints at CAR Note: I totally underestimated the Saints defense last week, but Marshon Lattimore's absence should hurt them, even with them adding Bradley Roby. Also, Marcus Davenport is out with a pectoral strain. ***It's possible that Lattimore could play - it'll be a game-time call. Kwon Alexander (elbow) was also placed on IR.*** |
15. | *San Francisco 49ers at PHI Note: ***Javon Kinlaw (knee) could return this week after limited practices Thursday and Friday. They did lost Jason Verrett (knee) for the season.*** |
