South Africa vs Sri Lanka: Third T20I Preview

Match Details

South Africa vs Sri Lanka, 3rd T20I
March 24, 2019
Wanderers Stadium - Johannesburg, South Africa

Preview

South Africa whitewashed Sri Lanka in the ODI series and are well on course to register a 3-0 win against the team in the T20Is as well after beating the visitors in the first two games. Though the first T20I ended with South Africa winning in the super over, they were at their convincing best in the second game, riding over the scare that Isuru Udana provided them in the latter stages of the match.

The hosts have now won 7 of their last 8 T20I matches and will be eager to end their international season with a 3-0 drubbing. Though South Africa are without their premier players - Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Imran Tahir and Rabada have all flown to India for the IPL - they have enough firepower in their team to cross the rope once again.

Player recommendation

Wicket-keeper: Niroshan Dickwella (8.5 credits)
With Qeshile being the only other alternative for the Dream11 siSadeerae, picking the Sri Lankan is an easy choice. Not only is he more experienced, he also smashed a quickfire 20 in 15 balls in the second T20I, which should give him confidence in a game that the visitors will play for pride.

Batsman: Rassie van der Dussen (9 credits)
Rassie van der Dussen scored 34 in the first T20I and followed it up with a crucial knock

Batsman: Rassie van der Dussen (9 credits)
Rassie van der Dussen scored 34 in the first T20I and followed it up with a crucial knock of 64 that camee in 44 balls at the Centurion. The player averages an impressive 36.89 in the shortest format, with a strike-rate that hovers around the 130-mark. In just a year, van der Dussen has become an integral member of the South African unit, and he will hope to continue his form forward.

All-rounder: Chris Morris (9.5 credits)
The best all-rounder in the series, Morris is a must-pick. He picked up 3 wickets whilst conceding 32 runs in the last game. He has the potential of changing the game with either bat or ball - as we have seen innumerable times in the IPL as well. In the recent series against Pakistan, Morris had picked up 2 for 27 and then hit an unbeaten 55, which only showed how invaluable he is.

Bowler: Lasith Malinga (9.5 credits)
The Sri Lankan has not fared badly in the series - picking up 3 for 37 in eight overs that he has bowled in the series. He was the in-form player in the first game and his spell of 2 for 11 had helped Sri Lanka earn a tie. Though he could not continue his momentum in the super over, Malinga has showed that he still has the skills to york players out like he could in his prime.

Captain: Chris Morris
Vice-captain:Rassie van der Dussen
