India Women vs. England Women: Third T20I Preview

Match Details:

India Women vs England Women, 3rd T20I
March 09, 2019
Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati

Preview

The hosts have already lost the three-match T20I series and will be hoping to end their clashes with England on a high by putting in a respectable performance in the last match. Mithali Raj might be playing her last T20I game, and she will be eager to bow out on a high. The Indians have been struggling in the format ever since the T20 World Cup ended - they lost the series to New Zealand earlier this year - and now have conceded the series to England as well.

While India's batting looks fragile in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, the bowling is even bleaker, with no pace bowler in the ranks who can cause trouble upfront. This is being utilized to full advantage by the English Women, as the openers are making hay in the powerplay overs. By the time the spinners from India come into the game, a solid foundation has already been set, which allows players like Brunt and Knight to play their aggressive strokes.

Player recommendations:

Wicket-keeper: Amy Ellen Jones (8.5 credits)

The keeper bats in the top-order, and with India's bowling looking unthreatening, she has a huge chance of getting a big score on the board. Her counterpart, India's Taniya Bhatia on the other hand is being sent in at number eight, which hardly allows her enough deliveries to settle down and get a respectable total.

Her counterpart, India's Taniya Bhatia on the other hand is being sent in at number eight, which hardly allows her enough deliveries to settle down and get a respectable total.

Batsman: Danielle Wyatt (9.5 credits)

With the track looking good to bat on and with India's new-ball bowlers being below-par, the Player of the Match in the second game, will be itching to continue her form and end the series on a high. The opener has always done well against India - averaging 36.37 with a high score of 124 - against the Women in Blue in 9 innings, which is more than what she has averaged against any other country.

All-rounder: Natalie Sciver (10.5 credits)

Though Sciver has gone wicketless in the series thus far, she has tremendous records in the format and can be counted upon to contribute. Her batting strike-rate in 20 over cricket is 109.90 while her economy rate whilst bowling is 6.58. Hence she not only has the potential to score some important runs in the back-end of the innings, she can also stall the flow of runs, thus increasing pressure on the opponents.

Bowler: Linsey Smith (8 credits)

In the absence of Ecclestone, Smith has taken on the responsibility with the ball, and has taken 4 wickets in the two games in the series thus far. Bowling in the middle overs, the player has been able to create pressure by bowling tight lines and will hope she can seal her spot in the team by pitching in with yet another memorable performance.

Captain: Sciver
Vice-captain: Wyatt

Predicted Playing XI:

India Women: Anuja Patil, Smriti Mandhana (c), Jemimah Rodrigues, Mithali Raj, Bharati Fulmali, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Poonam Yadav, Ekta Bisht, Radha Yadav

England Women: Danielle Wyatt, Tammy Beaumont, Natalie Sciver, Heather Knight (c), Lauren Winfield, Laura Marsh, Kate Cross, Amy Ellen Jones (wk), Linsey Smith, Katherine Brunt, Anya Shrubsole
