India vs West Indies: ICC World Cup Match 34 Preview

India vs West Indies: ICC World Cup Match 34 Preview

After three stellar games between India and Pakistan, England and Afghanistan and West Indies and New Zealand, we return to Manchester for what promises to be a thrilling contest. India take on West Indies with a win potentially taking them to the semi-finals of the World Cup. The Jason Holder-led side, though, are slacking and a loss could end their tournament. Even a win might not be enough to salvage their World Cup knockout hopes.

Pitch and weather conditions:

The Manchester has seen high scoring games in the recent past with the side batting second struggling to gin down targets. Both teams will want to bat first if they win the toss despite that going against the trend of this World Cup.

Player Recommendations:

Wicket-keeper: Shai Hope (9.5 credits)

Shai Hope has been West Indies' best batsman for a while in ODIs. Despite concerns surrounding his strike rate from the middle-order, Hope has continued to deliver runs and in this game, with Lewis nursing an injury, we could see Hope coming in alongside Chris Gayle at the top. Against India's new ball pair, it isn't ideal to back many openers but Gayle and Hope are among the few you can trust.

Batsman:  Rohit Sharma (10 credits)

With two hundreds in the World Cup, Rohit Sharma has been in terrific touch and will want to add on to his run tally with big runs against the Windies. The opener has stepped up and scored big once he gets starts

Batsman:  Rohit Sharma (10 credits)

With two hundreds in the World Cup, Rohit Sharma has been in terrific touch and will want to add on to his run tally with big runs against the Windies. The opener has stepped up and scored big once he gets starts and on the Manchester surface, which has been flat and listless, he is a must have in your side.

All-rounder: Jason Holder (9 credits)

Depsite flying low-key, Jason Holder is an unheralded champion in this West Indian bowling attack. He is capable of swinging the ball early and is very restrictive with his line and lengths. With additional batting responsibilities as well, Holder is one all-rounder you want to have in your team.

Bowler: Mohammed Shami (8.5 credits)

Replacing Bhuvneshwar Kumar successfully, Shami produced a hat-trick in the game against Afghanistan. But that's not why we have him zeroed in as captain for this game. A natural wicket-taker, Shami can give points aplenty when batsmen look to take him on and with Windies restricted by Bumrah, Kuldeep and Chahal, they will inevitably have to look to take on some one like Shami. This could fetch him wickets and in turn fantasy points for you.

Captain: Mohammed Shami

Vice-captain: Rohit Sharma

Predicted Playing XI:

India: Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja/Kedar Jadhav, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Shai Hope, Darren Bravo,  Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Oshane Thomas, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell
