India vs. Bangladesh: First T20I Preview

India vs. Bangladesh: First T20I Preview

Match details:

Series/tournament name: India vs Bangladesh T20I series

Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi

Date: November 3, 2019

Time: 7.00 PM IST

Preview:

Bangladesh are yet to beat India in a T20I despite playing them eight times in the format. With no Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, their task is even more massive this time around. The only relief is that India are fielding a second-string bowling attack without their strike pace bowlers.

Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's absence paves way for the younger lot of seamers as India test the waters ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. Bangladesh will look to do as much and fill in the big shoes of Shakib during the course of this series.

Weather report:

The smog and air quality in Delhi is under scrutiny and as teams take the field, expect masks and lots of pollution. The prediction for tomorrow is pretty hazy.

Pitch report:

The pitch is expected to be on the slower side although the cooler climate could mean that the ball might hold its shape early on and swing a bit.

Probable Playing XI:

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul/Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Krunal Pandya, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Yuzvendra Chahal

Bangladesh: Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah (c), Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Abu Haider Rony, Al-Amin

Top picks:

Wicket-keeper: Mushfiqur Rahim (9.5 credits)

Rahim has an incredible record against India and will be a key player for Bangladesh this series with Shakib and Tamim absent. He is expected to shoulder big responsibility in the middle-order and if there's anyone who can save the vistors some grace this series, it is Rahim.

Batsman: Rohit Sharma (11 credits)

Deemed fit after an injury scare, Rohit Sharma will be itching to once again lead the side and carry forward his good form from the Tests against South Africa to the T20Is. He has a fine record against the neighbors having made four half-centuries in eight matches against them in the format.

All-rounder: Washington Sundar (8 credits)

Sundar is expected to start with the new ball for India, a role he has rather successfully fulfilled for Tamil Nadu, the IPL franchises he has played for and India. The off-spinner can dart the ball from around the wicket or find turn to keep the scoring rate in check and will be a good pick on a slow Delhi wicket.

Bowler: Deepak Chahar (8.5 credits)

Chahar has been as effective with the new ball for India so far in the shortest format of the game as he has been for the Chennai Super Kings. The swing bowler is a wicket-taking option upfront and can be expected to use the the moisture that is likely to be present on the Delhi wicket.

Captaincy options: Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar
