India vs Australia: Fourth ODI Preview

India vs Australia, 4th ODI

Punjab Cricket Association - Mohali, India

Preview

After winning the first two games of the 5-match series, the Indian team faced defeat in the third game, as the Aussie openers came out all guns blazing to thwart the Indian bowling attack. Hence, with the series still in balance, both sides will go for the kill - India to seal the series and Australia to draw level.

A number of changes can be expected from the hosts though in the fourth ODI. MS Dhoni has already been rested for the last two matches, which means that Rishabh Pant is likely to be the keeper. Shami was seen limping in the third clash, and it is likely that he will be rested at Mohali, which might open the doors for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With the Indian bowling looking lackluster at Ranchi, Chahal might be slotted in for Jadeja, while there might be a toss up between KL Rahul and Dhawan.

As far as the hosts are concerned, they are likely to go in unchanged, though Nathan Lyon might be replaced by Jason Behrendorff, if the conditions are in favour of the pacers.

Wicket-keeper: Alex Carey (8 credits)

Pant is back in the international fold after a long hiatus and all eyes will be on the youngster in the absence of MS Dhoni. The pressure of seizing his chance with two games to go before the World Cup might be too daunting for the Indian, and in that scenario it is safer to go in with the Australian. Carey has gotten off to starts in the three games and has remained unbeaten twice in the series and he will be itching to get a big score under his belt.

Batsman: Virat Kohli (11.5 credits)

The 'monster batsman' has a stunning average of 99.22 since 2018, which has come courtesy nine hundreds in 23 innings. With the Indian batting unit looking iffy, Kohli has been the go-to player for the Indian team, and one can expect him to continue his fine showing in the fourth game as well. With MS Dhoni being rested and the top order short of runs, the Indian skipper will have his hands full, but he can be counted upon to get another big knock.

All-rounder: Glenn Maxwell (9 credits)

The Aussie player has raised his game in the recent past and has emerged as a reliable player for the team with both bat and ball. Maxwell had struck a brilliant ton in the T20I series and has been getting starts in the ODIs too. Though he missed out in the second clash, he struck quickfire 40s in the other two matches, and he will be itching to get a big innings under his belt. His off-spin can be handy as well.

Bowler: Jasprit Bumrah (9.5 credits)

The go-to bowler and one of the most important players in the Indian line-up, Bumrah will be expected to get the in-form top-order Aussie players upfront. With the track at Mohali traditionally assisting the quick bowlers, the Indian pacer can be counted upon to create inroads that will mount the pressure on the rivals. His toe-crushing yorkers at the death too gets him a few scalps, and he will be the player to watch out for.

Captain: Kohli/Maxwell
Vice-captain: Bumrah
