CPL 2019 - Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents: Tallawahs look to break miserable run

CPL 2019 - Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents: Tallawahs look to break miserable run

Match details:

Series/tournament name: Caribbean Premier League 2019

Venue: Kingston, Jamaica

Date: 15 September , 2019

Time: 10:30 p.m. IST

Preview:

Both teams pack a punch on paper with incredible batting ability. But the same cannot be said of their bowlers who have consistently underperformed. It could be a contest between the two power hitting sides at Kingston when these two face off. While the Tallawahs are yet to win, the Tridents have one win and are just above Tallawahs in the table. The home conditions haven't helped the Tallawahs so far but they will hope that changes.

Weather report: Humidity is high but the weather is clear for this fixture.

Pitch report: The pitch is expected to be flat and should assist massive scores like we saw in the last game played here. But with this being the third game in as many days on the surface, it could slow down too.

Injuries and replacements: No noted injuries

Probable Playing XI:

Barbados Tridents:

Johnson Charles and Leniko Boucher came good for the Tridents last game and it was just about enough to grant then a win. With the experience of JP Duminy, who also made a vital contribution, and skipper Jason Holder, the batting is in safe hands. But will Alex Hales fire? We sure think he would. They are unlikely to change their XI for this game. If anything, Josh Lalor might make way for Raymon Reifer.

Alex Hales, Johnson Charles, Leniko Boucher, Jean-Paul

Jamaica Tallawahs

Chris Gayle has had mixed results in the season with a hundred followed by a duck. But there's no such inconsistency for the Tallawahs. They have been consistently below par and find themselves at the bottom of the table despite stunning firepower in the batting department. We might be in for a few changes in the bowling department. One of Imran Khan or Shamar Springer might get a game.

Chris Gayle, Glenn Phillips, Chadwick Walton, Rovman Powell, George Worker, Javelle Glen, Derval Green, Jerome Taylor, Ramaal Lewis, Oshane Thomas, Zahir Khan

Top picks:

Wicket-keeper: Glenn Phillips (8.5 credits)

Phillips' modus operandi fits into this Tallawahs team perfectly well. With his aggressive approach, he lets Gayle settle into a rhythm at the other end and the platform is laid for a strong middle-order. Phillips has shown that he is in form and we could expect a big knock from him this game.

Batsman: Alex Hales (10 credits)

After a first ball duck in the first game of this season, Hales hasn't quite clicked. He is without a shade of doubt a brilliant striker of the ball and his abilities at the top should come to the fore sooner rather than later. With Charles there to do the big hitting job, Hales should have an easier time at the top.

All-rounder: JP Duminy (9 credits)

Duminy played a handy role in the Tridents' win over Patriots and has a game fine-tuned for the shortest format of the game. His bowling abilities haven't been used in the true sense yet but the South African should play a big role this season for the Tridents.

Bowler: Oshane Thomas (8.5 credits)

Thomas was at the receiving end of an onslaught from Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro and Kieron Pollard and conceded 63 in his four overs. However, he is a world-class act and it would be a folly to leave him out of your fantasy team entirely. He could easily be the differential on a surface that is turning out to be lighting quick.

Captaincy options: Glenn Phillips, JP Duminy, Alex Hales
