Enters 2021 NFL Draft
Not Injury Related
August 16, 2020
Jackson announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he'll forgo his senior season at Colorado State and enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Jackson's decision to opt out of the upcoming season comes after he was recently named the Mountain West's preseason Offensive Player of the Year. During his three seasons at Colorado State, Jackson recorded 124 receptions for 1,789 yards and 14 touchdowns. With Jackson departing, Dante Wright and Nate Craig-Myers will look to carry the load in the receiving game with unproven talent filling in behind them.

Jackson is a unique talent who enters the season as the top dog among a talented Colorado State receiving corps. At 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds with standout leaping ability, Jackson is a nightmare for defenders, especially in the red zone. He caught six of his eight touchdowns in that area last season and figures to be Colorado State’s main weapon there again in 2020. There are some factors that could prevent Jackson from building on his 2019 in terms of his raw production. For one, Colorado State is breaking in a new offensive system under former Ball State OC Joey Lynch. Secondly, Dante Wright is an ascending talent out of the slot who will command more volume this year, plus Nate Craig-Myers will have a strong target share on the outside opposite Jackson. Everything is still in place for Jackson to have a strong season, but don’t be surprised if Wright or Craig-Myers match or surpass his production this year.
Preston Williams and Bisi Johnson are off to the NFL, and with their exit a void of 254 targets gets blasted open in the Colorado State offense. Jackson served as the third wideout last year, catching 32 of his 49 targets for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Auburn transfer Nate Craig-Meyers figures to take a good stab at targets up for grabs, but Jackson's 6-foot-6 frame gives him the ability to bully in the red zone. Quarterback Collin Hill is probably a bit better than his numbers from last year, so the passing game should offer useful volume despite the departure of quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels.
Jackson hauled in 15 receptions for 265 yards (17.7 YPR) and two scores during his first season with the Rams while the likes of Michael Gallup and Olabisi Johnson saw most of the targets. Entering 2018, Jackson figures to sit behind Olabisi Johnson as the No. 2 option on the depth chart, although he could steal some production from the primary wideout. Colorado State is breaking in an exciting new quarterback in K.J. Carta-Samuels, a transfer from Washington who will provide a spark to an already potent offense. Considering Jackson's size (6-5, 205) the opportunity will be there for him to be Colorado State's new red zone weapon.
