Ta'Zhawn Henry

Henry was an integral part of the Cougars’ backfield in 2021, and his role should continue to expand in 2022. The 5-foot-7 senior handled 111 carries for 513 yards and seven touchdowns, adding on 20 receptions for 105 yards in 2021. During the off-season, lead running back Alton McCaskill, who handled 189 carries in 2021, suffered a torn ACL in a non-contact spring practice. The 6-foot-1 sophomore is expected to miss significant time, if not the whole season for Houston. In his absence, the Cougars have brought in USC-transfer Brandon Campbell, who handled 12 carries for 53 yards during his freshman season with the Trojans. Henry figures to take on a much larger share of the Cougars backfield with McCaskill recovering from injury, but he may face competition for the vacated touches from the incoming freshman Campbell.
