Not returning to Illini
Epstein announced that he is not returning to the Illini in 2022, Jeremy Werner of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Epstein's playing days appear to be over, at least at Illinois, after a productive but injury-riddled career dating back to 2018. He never appeared in more than seven games in a season and topped out at 411 yards on 6.9 yards per carry as a freshman.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Epstein burst on to the scene with the Illini in 2017, taking the lead role in the backfield from the get-go and racking up 346 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 57 carries (6.1 YPC) in the first five games. Unfortunately, a foot injury ended his season in Week 5, and he remained sidelined during the spring, but the sophomore appears healthy heading into fall camp. Assuming he can handle the workhorse role in 2018, Epstein owns the most upside of any tailback in the Illini backfield. Any semblance of a passing game could also result in boosted numbers for Epstein during his second season in Champaign.
