Chase Claypool

Claypool broke out in Week 9 of the 2017 campaign, racking up nine catches for 180 yards and a touchdown against Wake Forest, although he struggled to put up consistent numbers throughout most of the regular season. He finished the year with 29 grabs for 402 yards and two scores, successfully collecting three or more catches in a single game in just three of his 11 matchups played. Despite this, Claypool figures to enter the upcoming season as a starter alongside Myles Boykin. Claypool and Boykin will absorb the bulk of the targets in the passing game and are talented enough to make the most of those looks, but it's fair to wonder where the Irish's passing game ceiling lies considering quarterback Brandon Wimbush's inaccuracy along with the team's run-first philosophy.

Claypool could be one of the receivers to fill the void of 40 percent of the receiving production in 2016 that was lost via departures. Equanimeous St. Brown is the definitive number one receiver for the Irish but the rest of the group is pretty much up in the air, The 6-foot-5-inch, 205-pound receiver has a shot to fill some of the void. As a freshman, the sophomore receiver only caught five passes for 81 yards and no touchdowns.
