DFS College Football: Week 14 Main Slates

Welcome into the last main slate breakdown for the regular season. Due to the holiday, we'll be blending the DraftKings and FanDuel in this space. We have an incredible slate of games with it being rivalry weekend, and games like Ohio State-Michigan, the Iron Bowl, Wisconsin-Minnesota, and Texas A&M-LSU should all be some of the best regular-season games of the year. Beyond the marquee matchups are plenty of promising offerings for DFS with 17 teams carrying implied totals north of 30 points. Let's dive into the meat of the article, where you'll find our cheat sheets along with our suite of DFS tools before getting to the position-by-position breakdown. While this is the last regular season main slate article of the year, we'll have DFS coverage throughout Bowl Season, so don't worry about that.

DFS Tools

Position by Position Breakdown

Quarterback

Ian Book, Notre Dame ($8,300 DK, $10,400 FD) at Stanford

Stanford has been a defense to pick on all season and Book has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the nation this year, so he immediately drew my eye here. The Cardinal surrender an uncharacteristic 281.7 passing yards per game, one of the worst marks on the slate while Book has at least three total touchdowns in each of his last three games. The only two times Book has thrown less than 30 passes since Week 7 were 1.) In a monsoon in Michigan and 2.) against a Navy team that...well plays the Navy offense. So we can expect Book to be going to the air plenty on Saturday and it's hard not to like his combination of matchup and price on both sites.

Justin Herbert, Oregon ($7,700 DK, $9,200 FD) vs. Oregon State

Oregon blowing its chance at the playoff last week takes a little bit of the luster out of this matchup, but this is the last home start of Herbert's career and it's hard not to like him in this spot. Oregon State allows 285.5 passing yards and 2.5 passing touchdowns per game, both ranking among the worst on the slate while Herbert is completing 66.0 percent of his passes with an 8.5 YPA and a 19:5 TD:INT in conference play. What helps push Herbert over the edge in terms of making the cut for a blurb in this space is the game context. We're looking at the third-highest over/under of all the games on both sites, with Herbert's Ducks holding the highest implied total at 43.5. Oregon State has shown enough moxie to keep games interesting with its explosive offense, so there's a good chance this game is competitive enough to keep Herbert on the field long enough to compile a strong stat line.

Sam Howell, North Carolina ($9,700 -- FanDuel Only) at North Carolina State

You know how many games with at least three touchdowns Howell has this year?

Thank you, Heath. That's right, Howell has six such starts in 11 starts, with three of them in three consecutive games coming into Saturday. The matchup itself isn't a cakewalk -- NC State has the definition of a defense that's just...fine. It ranks 65th -- exactly middle of the pack -- in defensive S&P+. It has given up 18 passing touchdowns in seven conference games while picking off exactly zero passes. With Howell rocking a 32:6 TD:INT against a resume of teams that are better (or aren't much worse) than NC State, it stands to reason that he'll continue his success in this spot Saturday.

Micale Cunningham, Louisville ($6,800 DK-Only) at Kentucky

I'm going back to the Cunningham well on DraftKings with his price still cruising along under $7K despite hanging 40 DK points on 'Cuse last week. What more does he need to do to get some respect? Louisville plays Kentucky this week, and with Kentucky ranking 34th defensively in S&P+, maybe that's already baked into the discount. Still, only seven of the 38 starting quarterbacks on this combined Super Slate average more fantasy points per game over the last four weeks. He's had at least three total touchdowns in three straight games and is coming off a six-touchdown performance against Syracuse. He won't be sneaking up on the field this week the way he did last Saturday but there's still a chance his ownership number will be manageable in GPPs.

Holton Ahlers, East Carolina ($7,200 DK-Only) vs. Tulsa

I've had my doubts about Ahlers throughout the year but there aren't many quarterbacks playing better than him right now. Over the last four weeks, no quarterback -- not even Jalen Hurts -- is averaging more fantasy points per game than Ahlers. The system is helping goose those stats, but we don't care about that. He's averaging 48.0 attempts per game in November and is converting that into 9.8 YPA on a 68 percent completion rate. And Ahlers has 13 touchdowns and three turnovers in that span, making strides in terms of taking care of the ball and being efficient. Count me in this week against Tulsa's middling defense that has given up the most rushing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks in the AAC.

Running Back

D'Andre Swift, Georgia ($7,600 DK-Only) at Georgia Tech

Kansas may give up more rushing yards per game than Georgia Tech (214.9) but no one on Baylor is equipped to take advantage of the Jayhawks the way Swift is positioned to run on the Yellow Jackets. Swift has gone over 100 yards in back-to-back games and has five such outings on the year while averaging 6.2 YPC. There is some risk of him not playing all four quarters Saturday, but he may only need 10-12 carries to hit value against a weak Yellow Jacket run defense.

D.J. Williams, Auburn ($4,500 DK, $6,000 FD) vs. Alabama

Williams has established himself as Auburn's top running back in recent weeks with 40 carries for 161 yards and a score in his last three games while no other Tiger runner has more than 18 rushes in that span. There's also the matter of Alabama's defense simply not being as good as it usually is, giving up 130 rushing yards per game. Now, that's not a lot by any means, but it's not the automatic stay-away it once was. There's also the matter of Alabama's offense potentially not forcing the issue. If this were last year and it was a Tua-led offense that could put points up in bunches, I'd be concerned about Auburn abandoning the run. But this is a Mac Jones offense going against the No.3 defense in S&P+ on The Plains. So Auburn will be able to keep it close and lean on the run to take pressure off freshman Bo Nix, and that adds up to Williams being a viable punt play at running back.

Breece Hall, Iowa State ($8,800 FD-Only) at Kansas State

We're going back to the Hall well this week with Iowa State facing a Kansas State defense that allows a shocking 5.1 YPC. Hall has been a true workhorse since seizing control of the starting job for the 'Clones, averaging 22.2 carries per game. If Hall can return even average production against this Kansas State team, his workload alone should take him into triple-digits in terms of yardage.

Others to Consider

Javian Hawkins, Louisville [LOGO] ($5,800 DK-Only) at Kentucky
Kenneth Walker III, Wake Forest [LOGO] ($4,700 DK-Only) at Syracuse

Wide Receiver

Tyler Snead, East Carolina ($5,400 DK-Only) vs. Tulsa

Snead's price is so low relative to his recent production that it almost feels like a trap. He has 35 catches for 366 yards and three touchdowns on 39 targets in his last two games. That's worth close to top billing on a standard-scoring site. On PPR, that is gold. The problem here is Snead will likely be the chalkiest of chalk receivers, so using him won't separate your lineup from the field. Pivoting to the more expensive East Carolina receiver, C.J. Johnson, who saw 11 targets in his return to action last week, could be the more unique tournament play even if his floor isn't as high as Snead's.

Juwan Johnson, Oregon ($5,600 DK, $7,700 FD) vs. Oregon State

Johnson is coming on strong after an extremely slow start to the year. He broke out in Week 9 against Washington State with four catches for 64 yards and he has a combined total of 19 catches for 304 yards and four touchdowns since then. With the aforementioned deficiencies in the Oregon State secondary, Johnson will be positioned to continue his flourish to end his senior season.

Chase Claypool, Notre Dame ($6,500 DK, $8,600 FD) at Stanford

As we established earlier, Notre Dame gets a soft matchup against a porous Stanford defense. Claypool is worthy of a recommendation regardless of who he's going against, though, because he has been dominant of late. He's tied with JaMarr Chase and Denzel Mims in receiving touchdowns since Week 10 (6) and is averaging over 11.0 targets per game in that stretch, demonstrating a promising mix of volume and touchdown upside. Claypool's middling catch rate makes him less appealing on DraftKings than it does on FanDuel where it doesn't matter as much, but he's a strong play on both sites. And he's especially appealing if you've already locked Ian Book into your lineup.
