Beaten up in blowout loss
Burton was 12-for-24 passing for 74 yards and one interception during Monday's 63-7 defeat versus LSU in the Citrus Bowl. He also had five rushes for -14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Burton stepped in for his second start of the season in place of prolific passer Aidan O'Connell, who opted out in preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft. The No. 2 quarterback didn't stand much of a chance while facing a much-more talented Tigers defense, as top Boilermakers pass catchers Charlie Jones and Payne Durham also opted out. Burton was sacked three times and averaged a paltry 3.1 yards per attempt before throwing his final incompletion early in the third quarter. He was then removed from the game after LSU went up 42-0 on the following drive, leaving Purdue signal-callers Michael Alaimo and Jack Albers to finish out the remainder of the second half. This brought and end to Burton's sixth collegiate season, so it appears he'll be out of eligibility moving forward.
