January 7, 2012
Baker will enter the 2012 NFL Draft, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Baker was productive in 2010, running for 1,201 yards (5.8 YPC) and 13 touchdowns, but his 2011 season was a disaster. He averaged just 3.9 yards per carry this year and was nowhere near the starting running back spot by the end of the year. Baker is nondescript as a running back -- he looks ordinary as far as speed, quickness and explosiveness go. He's physically strong, but Baker's lack of explosiveness and balance prevent his strength from translating into enough broken tackles. He's no lock to get drafted.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2011
2010
Baker is a talented player, but he falls this far on the list due to his lack of pass-catching production and the crowded backfield he plays in. Le'Veon Bell ran for 605 yards and eight touchdowns last year, so while Baker's 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns were impressive, his upside is limited as long as Bell and Larry Caper are around. He should be close to a lock for 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, however, so his floor is relatively high.
Baker did not make a big impact in his first season in Lansing and will likely enter the season behind Larry Caper on the depth chart. Baker will split the carries with Caper initially, but he was highly recruited and could eventualy move into the starting role if he stays healthy. Baker is a small, powerful back who could really take off with an increased workload.
