Ford will enter the 2013 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Ford might have been as low as fifth on the LSU depth chart, he might get drafted. He's a former top recruit who almost always produced when on the field, but LSU's incredible running back depth (and perhaps some academic eligibility issues) kept Ford from earning a big role. He led the team with 756 yards (6.0 YPC) on the ground in 2011, rushing for seven touchdowns on 127 carries, and he averaged 5.5 yards per carry in 2011. Ford has a thick build and shows an ability to charge in a straight line, but a lot of his production came on option tosses, and there's little evidence that he has the skills to project as a traditional runner.

Spencer Ware led LSU with 177 carries last year, but Ford comfortably led the team in rushing yardage, taking his 127 carries for 756 yards (6.0 YPC) and seven scores. Talented as he is, Ford's value is nonetheless very limited because Ware, Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard will all demand their share of carries. Injuries will likely need to occur for Ford to be relevant outside of SEC-only leagues.
Ford is a former (very) high ranking recruit for LSU who just hasn't put it all together yet. He heads into his redshirt sophomore season with a big opportunity to earn a big role in 2011, but he'll face stiff competition from Spencer Ware, among others. If he gets carries he should prove to be a fantasy factor, but it's tough to tell where the carries are headed in the LSU backfield.
Ford is expected to be the No. 2 back going into the season, but has the blend of speed and power to revive a running game that struggled last season. Richard Murphy should be very worried about his starting spot with this hard-charging future starter behind him. The former five-star recruit ought to make a serious push for the feature-back role at LSU in 2010 and is probaby the LSU back to target, if any of them.
