Declares for 2017 NFL Draft
January 6, 2017
Redding announced Friday that he is declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
After playing behind future draft picks Tevin Coleman and Jordan Howard in his first two seasons, Redding took on the featured role in the Indiana backfield this season and thrived. He notched his first 1,000-yard season, rushing for 1,122 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games. At 5-10, 208, Redding is a well-built back that runs with good pad level. There is some concern about his transition to the next level, however, given that his 4.43 YPC ranked the second-lowest among all 1,000-yard rushers this season. He projects as a Day 3 prospect.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Indiana has had a tremendous run of running back talent in recent years with the likes of Tevin Coleman and Jordan Howard both moving on to the NFL. Redding, who actually led the Hoosiers in carries last season with 226, is no lock to be the next Indiana bellcow based on what we’ve seen thus far. While he did lead the team in carries by 29 over Howard, he had 201 fewer yards than Howard, which isn’t overly encouraging. Still, Redding was only a sophomore that came into the year with 29 career carries and he ended the season on an absolute tear. Over his last three games, including Indiana’s Bowl Game, Redding produced rushing outputs of 130, 144, and 227 yards. Again, there’s a grain of salt element here as those three games came against Maryland, Purdue, and Duke, and only one of those teams (Duke, 49) had a top 50 defense in terms of rushing yards allowed per game. While Redding may not be the talent that Coleman or Howard are, he still should be an upper echelon back in the Big 10 thanks to a big workload and ability to make plays once he finds daylight.
