Marshall will not seek a medical hardship waiver that could allow him to play for Oregon in 2016, OregonLive.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Marshall, who injured his leg in a loss to Utah on Sept. 26 and has been sidelined ever since undergoing surgery the following week, is eligible to apply for a medical hardship waiver that would allow him to play one final season in 2016. The 5-10, 205-pound senior has apparently elected to forego a possible fifth year in Eugene, however, and finishes his collegiate career the only player in Pac-12 history with 1,000-yard seasons as a rusher and receiver.

Marshall did not disappoint in his first season as Oregon's top ballcarrier last year, taking 168 carries for 1,038 yards (6.2 YPC) and 14 touchdowns and catching 13 passes for 155 yards. He did this despite losing 96 carries to De'Anthony Thomas, who's now in the NFL. With Thomas gone, Marshall should safely exceed 200 carries, making his rushing floor about 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns. Last year's 6.2 yards per carry appears sustainable as the offensive line returns all of its starters.

It'd be unfair to expect Marshall to produce like Kenjon Barner and LaMichael James did in recent years, but it's nonetheless impossible to have merely modest expectations for a player expected to serve as Oregon's top runner. Marshall did well for himself as a freshman in 2012, taking 87 carries for 447 yards (5.1 YPC) and four touchdowns, and as the top returning running back on the roster he should be in for a big promotion. Double check on Marshall's status closer to the fall, though, because it's possible that super recruit Thomas Tyner will emerge as Oregon's top running back as a true freshman.
