Thompson’s confidence in Columbia is growing after finishing 2012 with a sterling 310 yard, 3 TD effort at Clemson, followed by a game winning score in the Outback Bowl over Michigan. He ran the first unit offense this spring as Conner Shaw recovered from foot surgery, but there’s been no mention of a true quarterback battle for the Gamecocks. As long as Shaw is healthy, he’s the guy. Thompson is one of the best backups nationally, and a must own handcuff for anyone drafting Shaw. And should Shaw miss any time, Thompson will be a very hot waiver commodity.
