Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
2011
Although he was one of the most disappointing fantasy players of 2012, Watkins will return to dominant status in 2013. Star wideout DeAndre Hopkins is gone from the Clemson offense, as are the 61-catch duo of Brandon Ford and Jaron Brown, and quarterback Tajh Boyd's passes have to land somewhere. Watkins is where they'll land, and he'll produce like he did as a freshman in 2011, when he totaled 83 catches for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games while adding 231 yards on the ground. Expect Watkins to produce better than Lee on a per-game basis, though the fact that Lee plays 13 games this year makes the USC wideout the better bet to produce on the aggregate level.
An offseason marijuana arrest could, and probably will, cost Watkins at least one game this year due to suspension, but probably no more than three. Beyond that likely limitation, though, he will likely be one of the nation's best fantasy options in 2012. Watkins was spectacular as a true freshman in 2011 and was actually the top fantasy receiver for much of the year, finishing with 83 catches for 1,225 yards and 12 scores while adding a kick return touchdown and 231 rushing yards.. He was overused a bit, though, and his workload of roughly 11.5 touches per game resulted in a shoulder injury. Watkins should remain an extremely consistent producer in 2012, as his starting quarterback, Tajh Boyd, is back.
Watkins is a high-ranking 2011 recruit who has a chance to make an instant impact in Clemson's new Tulsa-style offense. He's probably not worth drafting outside of ACC-only leagues this year, but he's a great keeper target.
