Jones suffered a torn ACL in training camp last year and then had a setback in the spring which required a follow-up procedure. It's not a sure thing he'll be ready for the start of the season, but it sounds like he's on track barring a setback. If healthy, he'll be Northwestern's top target in the passing game. When he last played in 2013, he set career-highs in all categories, finishing with 54 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns.
Jones is Northwestern's top returning receiver, but had just 35 receptions and two touchdowns last season as the Wildcats focused more on the run – a trend that looks likely to continue in 2013. Jones has the size (6-3) to be the passing offense's primary target again, but the targets may be split amid a deep group of receivers.
Jones was a four-star recruit who likely chose Northwestern because he tore an ACL late in high school. He caught just 16 passes last season as he couldn't win more than a secondary role in a deep receiving corps. The Wildcats will have several openings after the departure of most of its receiving corps, so Jones could win a prominent role in a high-volume passing attack.
