Siemian will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL against Purdue, CBSSports.com reports.

ANALYSIS
According to the report, Zach Oliver will get the start when Northwestern plays Illinois. Matt Alviti is expected to see osme playing time as well. Siemian was having a tough season prior to this injury, having thrown 11 interceptions and only seven touchdowns.

Siemian had a disappointing season in 2013 as he threw for 2,149 yards passing and 11 touchdowns with nine interception while sharing playing time with Kain Colter. Siemian had too many key turnovers last season, but showed promise as the better passer the previous season. It sounds like the Wildcats will move back to a one-QB system with Siemian as the starter. He has some upside if the Wildcats switch back to a medium-range, pass-happy offense that characterized head coach Pat Fitzgerald's teams earlier this decade.

Siemian split time at quarterback last season with Kain Colter and Northwestern will use a two-QB system with the duo again this year. Siemian is the better passer, but is an above average runner and can add some value with his legs. Still, he'll get the lesser share of quarterback play in a run-focused attack, which limits his upside.

Siemian has a strong arm and above-average running ability, two traits that fit well into Northwestern's spread offense. However, with Kain Colter already holding the title of starting quarterback, Siemian needs a Colter injury to land the job. The 6-foot-3 quarterback native has a future in Evanston, but that future probably does not include 2012.
