2024 Tournament PreviewCoach Chris Collins deserves a mountain of credit for guiding Northwestern to the NCAA Tournament despite roster turnover and injury trouble. It helps to have guard Boo Buie (19.2 ppg, 5.1 apg), who dominates games. A fifth-year senior with postseason experience, Buie shoots 44.3 percent from 3-point range to lead an offense that ranks fourth in the nation from the perimeter (39.4 percent). Senior guard Ryan Langborg (12.2 ppg) isn't far behind at 41.5 percent. Strong backcourt play limits turnovers (seventh nationally in turnover rate), and with a breakout season from 6-6 wing Brooks Barnhizer (14.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg), the Wildcats rank 30th in offensive efficiency, per KenPom. Defense has had its struggles, especially defending the perimeter (312th in opponent 3-point percentage) and allowing opponents to get to the foul line ( 317th in FTA/FGA). Still, wins against the likes of Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Dayton are cause for optimism.
