Powers through injury to play in title game
Owens (ankle) had three points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds and a block across 22 minutes before fouling out of Monday's National Championship game against Virginia.
ANALYSIS
Owens wouldn't have taken the court had this been a regular season game, but he pushed forward with aggressive treatment and likely played through some pain in order to participate in the sport's grandest stage. The outcome wasn't quite what the senior had hoped, but there's no question he gave what he could on both sides of the floor. The Virginia bigs simply did a better job attacking him, and Owens allowed fouls to pile up and limit his playing time. Owens spent time in his career at both Tennessee and St. John's, but 2018-19 as a Red Raider ended up as his best statistical year, with averages of 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds on 61 percent shooting. His size, quickness and defensive prowess should get him a look at the next level, though he's not a name currently seen in many NBA mock drafts.
