Back in April, McClung announced that he would declare for the draft while simultaneously entering the NCAA's transfer portal. Though the junior guard ultimately withdrew his name from the portal less than two weeks later, he continued to seek feedback from the NBA's Undergraduate Advisory Committee. McClung decided it was in his best interest to pursue a move to the professional ranks, with his departure representing a major blow to a Red Raiders squad in transition under first-year head coach Mark Adams. After arriving at Texas Tech last offseason as a transfer from Georgetown, McClung averaged 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 three-pointers in 30.3 minutes per game over 29 appearances during his lone season in Lubbock.
