Leaving school for draft
Cockburn announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he will sign with an agent and forgo his remaining eligibility at Illinois to enter the 2022 NBA Draft.
ANALYSIS
The two-time All-American previously declared for the draft in 2020 and 2021 and also entered the transfer portal last offseason, only to return to Illinois. He won't be eligible to do so this time around, as he won't be signing with an NCAA-certified agent. The seven-foot, 285-pound big man's next challenge will be translating his talent to the NBA level, as he would have had little to gain by returning to college for a fourth season in 2022-23. Cockburn has already proven that he can manhandle the undersized centers of the college game, as his career-best averages of 20.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game as a junior last season attest.
