Out for NCAA tournament
Head coach Bill Self revealed Tuesday that McCullar (knee) will not play in the NCAA tournament, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
McCullar's absence for the tournament will be a massive blow for the Jayhawks, who will be without their leading scorer for the entirety of the team's run. McCullar posted a team-best 18.3 points per contest, adding 6.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals over 34.2 minutes per game. He sat out the team's Big 12 tournament loss to Cincinnati as well, which could provide a glimpse into where the Jayhawks will turn without him. Freshman Elmarko Jackson and senior Nicolas Timberlake drew starts in place of McCullar and Hunter Dickinson (shoulder) in the conference tournament, and both could be candidates for increased run in the national tournament as well. Jamari McDowell also saw extended run off the bench, and the other regular starters played extra minutes.
