DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

The regular season has concluded, and DraftKings is running a four-game slate featuring several conference tournament matchups, highlighted by the WCC Tournament semifinal between top-ranked Gonzaga and St. Mary's (CAL), as well as the Horizon League semifinal between Northern Kentucky and Oakland, which carries the highest expected scoring total on Monday's slate.

Targets

1. Adrian Nelson, F, Northern Kentucky ($5,600 DK)

Nelson's results were somewhat inconsistent earlier in the season, but he had a strong finish to the year with solid production in the scoring and rebound columns. The junior averaged a double-double over the final month of the season with 10.6 points and 11.0 rebounds over 32.1 minutes per game. He topped 30 DraftKings points in four of those seven matchups and should play a key role against Oakland to begin tournament play Monday.

2. Trey Townsend, F, Oakland ($6,000 DK)

Another player who had a stellar finish to the regular season is Townsend, who topped 30 DraftKings points in each of the final two matchups of the year. He averaged 38.5 minutes per game during those two competitive contests, and he should see plenty of playing time once again during the game that has the closest spread on Monday's slate. Neither team is particularly effective on defense, and Townsend should have plenty of opportunities on the boards, which should give him a fairly high floor during Monday's matchup.

3. Rashad Williams, G, Oakland ($5,000 DK)

Williams has been slightly more inconsistent than his Oakland teammate, but his abundance of attempts from beyond the arc gives him plenty of upside at his current DFS salary. He attempted at least 10 three-pointers in four of his last five appearances during the regular season while shooting 40.4 percent from beyond the arc during that time. Like Oakland's defense, Northern Kentucky gives up a below-average three-point rate, so Williams will likely have plenty of looks from long distance once again Monday.

Fades

1. Ross Cummings, G, Mercer ($5,400 DK)

Cummings has been inconsistent throughout the season but had a strong performance during a blowout win over Samford in the first round of the conference tournament. Unfortunately, his results have taken a massive hit over the past two games, largely because he shot just 10.5 percent from the floor during that time. He'll face an above-average UNC Greensboro defense during Monday's conference championship and could struggle once again. At his mid-level DFS price point, there are several more consistent options available Monday.

2. Evan Johnson, G, Georgia State ($4,900 DK)

Johnson has come off the bench in every game this season but still carries a relatively significant DFS salary, likely since he put up a season-high 28 points and four assists during the first half of a back-to-back set against South Alabama in late February. He's played at least 20 minutes in each of his three appearances since then but averaged just 6.7 points and 2.7 rebounds during that time. Johnson's DFS results have been capped by a low shot volume, and he could struggle to find looks against the above-average Appalachian State defense in Monday's matchup.

3. Tommy Kuhse, G, St. Mary's (CAL) ($6,300 DK)

Kuhse has the highest DFS salary on his team for Monday's matchup and has topped 20 DraftKings points in each of his last three appearances. He played all 40 minutes against Loyola Marymount on Saturday but was only able to put up 12 points during that appearance. He's been somewhat cold from the floor over the last five games, shooting just 29.5 percent from the floor during that time. It'll be tough for him to bounce back Monday against the elite Gonzaga defense that enters the game as 18-point favorites. He only mustered 11.5 DraftKings points during the matchup against the Bulldogs in February and could continue his cold stretch in Monday's WCC semifinal.
