The NFL is back! Training camp began Wednesday for the Cardinals, Ravens, Seahawks, and Broncos. In just over two weeks, we'll have preseason games to evaluate, and there are just 50 days remaining until the first regular-season game. For now, we'll glean what we can from the four teams that started up today along with any other pertinent fantasy news.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos were the only team which had veterans in camp this early, so naturally, the most news came out of Denver. John Elway said that Emmanuel Sanders (Achilles) won't be placed on the PUP list at the start of camp, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN. The 32-year-old seems to be ahead in his recovery from surgery having already progressed to cutting sharply while running routes, but he will be eased into action to prevent setbacks. His progress will need to be monitored going forward to see if he's lost a step, a common effect of this type of injury.
Also being eased into action is Phillip Lindsay (wrist), who is reportedly fully healed and, with an improved situation in Denver, will look to build on a fantastic rookie season. Second-round pick Drew Lock signed his rookie tender today. He could see time under center later in the year or possibly sooner if something happens to Joe Flacco.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With just rookies reporting for the remaining three teams, the next-biggest news of note instead comes from Tampa, where Ronald Jones II has added 13 pounds of muscle. Whether bulking up helps him seize the lead-back role from Peyton Barber or hinders his greatest asset -- speed -- remains to be seen.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Staying in the same state, Ryquall Armstead (hamstring) of the Jaguars is expected to be a full participant when training camp starts for rookies on Monday. He'll need to show he is up to speed in order to carve out a role behind Leonard Fournette as the injury already cost the fifth-round pick valuable reps at June minicamp.
San Francisco 49ers
On the other coast, Jimmy Garappolo (Knee - ACL) told Nick Wagoner of ESPN that he hopes to be a full go at the start of 49ers training camp, which starts on the 26th. Garappolo injured himself in Week 2 of last season. Additionally, the 27-year-old is honing his mechanics with noted quarterback whisperer, Tom House.
More news is on the way Thursday as the Falcons, Lions, and Saints all have their rookies reporting to camp.
