Tuesday's installment of TC Notes is headlined by injury news about a trio of top fantasy quarterbacks -- some good, some bad, some ugly.
- starting with the ugly, Ben Roethlisberger suffered yet another concussion in Tuesday's practice. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) the Steelers' training staff has plenty of experience handling his concussions, and right now there's no reason to think this will still be an issue by Week 1. Young backups Joshua Dobbs and Mason Rudolph were already going to take all the snaps in Thursday's preseason tilt, so the issue may not end up costing Roethlisberger much in the way of preseason reps.
- Carson Wentz expressed some concern that he might not be ready for Week 1 as he recovers from the knee surgery that cut short his 2017 campaign. The Eagles have already scaled back his practice workload, and until he returns to full team drills there's really no way to predict when he'll be ready to return to the lineup. Fantasy GMs investing in Wentz need to make sure they have a contingency plan in place, whether that involves a strong No. 2 QB or using a bench spot on Nick Foles.
- the good QB news is that Deshaun Watson has shed his knee brace when practicing, and he appears to be on track to suit up for Week 1. Given the upside he flashed in his truncated 2017, Watson's ADP could skyrocket if he looks to be 100 percent, so your window to get him at any kind of discount could be closing rapidly.
- the Seahawks' backfield situation became a little clearer when Rashaad Penny broke his finger in Monday's practice. The first-round pick will undergo surgery Wednesday that could keep him out for a month, putting his Week 1 availability in jeopardy and all but assuring Chris Carson of the starting gig to begin the year. Of course, if Carson were a lock to hold onto the job all season, the front office wouldn't have felt the need to use the 27th overall pick on a running back. Penny should eventually claim his spot at the top of the depth chart, but the timetable for that to happen has definitely been pushed back.
- Julian Edelman took part in individual drills Tuesday and appeared to have no issues with his knee. He's still suspended for the first four games, but it's looking more and more as though he'll be able to hit the ground running once he gets reinstated.
- Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target so far in camp, Marquise Goodwin looks ready to build on last season's breakout. Remember, he averaged 8.6 targets and nearly 77 receiving yards during the five games Jimmy G started last year, and Pierre Garcon doesn't appear to be a threat to his spot.
- DeVante Parker broke his finger over the weekend and missed Monday and Tuesday's practice. He's had trouble staying healthy throughout his career, so this isn't really a surprise, but whatever fading hopes people may have had for a Parker breakout will flicker out entirely if he's on the shelf to begin the regular season.
- Ed Dickson's slow recovery from a quad injury has opened the door for Nick Vannett to seize Seattle's No. 1 tight end spot. and Doug Baldwin's injury could put Vannett in line for a significant role in the offense. The third-year player is considered a block-first TE, but his upside as a pass-catcher hasn't really been explored yet -- at the very least, he has the size and hands to be a red-zone weapon for Russell Wilson, especially if Baldwin is limited in any way.
