Alex Collins or Jay Ajayi
Fantasy Football Draft Duels are back for the 2018 fantasy football draft season! This year, we're focusing on the major decisions fantasy football drafters have to face when they're picking their fantasy football teams.
For these Duels, assume typical 12-team, point-per-perception (PPR) fantasy football leagues.
Which running back would you rather have?
Alex Collins, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Over the last four games of 2017, Collins averaged 20 touches, making him one of the few RBs to have such a large workload. In addition, after their Week 10 bye, the Ravens also realized that he worth using as a weapon in the passing game, as he caught 20 passes over the last seven contests.
Since he's thrived as a receiver with Javorius Allen on the roster, Collins should see a fair number of targets. Also, it's difficult to imagine Kenneth Dixon will take away work from Collins, as he's been extremely unreliable in terms of being on the field during his career.
At their core, the Ravens want to run the ball and play hard-nosed defense, and even though Collins struggled in a number of games, he did well despite facing stacked boxes every week. For a player who'll see solid volume along with goal-line work, as well as a few targets each week, it's an easy choice to draft him over Ajayi, who'll likely see weekly instability in terms of his usage with the Eagles. -Jim Coventry
Jay Ajayi, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Just last year, Ajayi was going within the top 18 picks regardless of format, so it's somewhat stunning to see such a dramatic fall from grace, especially given he finished with the 17th-most rushing yards in 2017.
It's not hyperbole to suggest this is the best and most well-rounded offense Ajayi has played in during his entire career, and given he fits the one need the Eagles might have – a two-down back capable of handling the load in the red zone – it's laughable that the 25-year-old's ADP is closer to 50 than it is to 30 ... in a contract year, no less. -Joe Bartel
