Stopa 10K League

On Sunday night in Las Vegas, I participated in the Stopa League Auction, a 14-team, half-PPR, QB-flex, 2-TE  league with 10K in prizes. We each had a $200 budget. First overall wins the league. spots 2-4 get paid, 14th gets bounced. Here are the results:

Despite Brad Evans plying me with booze, I executed my plan more or less as I had hoped. I bought three high-priced position players, Le'Veon Bell, Odell Beckham and Leonard Fournette, early, got my two QBs, Jared Goff and Jameis Winston, and saved money for the end game wherein I got my targets, Marquise Goodwin and Robby Anderson. I also got good bargains on Julian Edelman ($2) and Isaiah Crowell ($3) before filling out the end game with D.J. Moore, Josh Doctson, Martavis Bryant and two $1 QBs to tide me over until Winston's suspension is done.

I skimped on TE, going with Tyler Kroft and Garrett Celek for $1 each. My feeling with the position is either get top ones or save money.

I didn't target Bell, Beckham or Fournette per se. I wanted to get stars early and wasn't that particular about which ones. The key in an auction is to spend all your money while getting bargains. The easiest way to do that is by buying early - when people are tentative -  and late when people are out of money. The early buys ensure you don't leave money on the table, and the late ones are almost always good deals if you can wait long enough and hoard cash while everyone has overspent on mid-tier options.
