Training Camp Blog: Is Blount on the outs in Philly?

With nearly two full weeks of preseason games in the books, we're beginning to get news about some of the injured players finally getting ready for their return action, in that'll make up most of the items in today's edition of the training camp blog:

• Although it's merely the speculation of NJ.com's Matt Lombardo, he reports that LeGarrette Blount may not be a lock for the final roster. Over the first two preseason games, he's gained just 17 yards on nine carries, and there were always questions as to whether he'd fit into Doug Pederson's offense. That said, unless another RB emerges as a short-yardage and goal line back, it would seem that the veteran would be able to make the regular season roster. However, it's also possible that he doesn't see nearly as many carries to justify his ADP, which is 86. His performance should be closely monitored as the preseason progresses.
• After missing the entire month with a toe injury, Washington activated Jordan Reed from the PUP list, which likely means that the team expects to have him ready for the regular season. In the past week, he was provided an orthotic device to help him deal with the discomfort while on the field. Despite being a big injury risk, Reed provides elite upside at the tight end position.
• DeMarco Murray is expected to make his preseason debut in the Week 3 preseason game against the Bears. Murray's been held out of action during the last two preseason games due to a hamstring injury. However, the injury was never viewed as serious, and he'll resume his role as the lead running back in the Titans backfield. Since he'll be running behind an outstanding offensive line in a run-heavy attack, Murray's well worth the second round pick that it'll take to secure his services in fantasy drafts.
• Moving back to Tennessee, rookie receiver Corey Davis is expected to return from his hamstring injury to play in the Titans final preseason game on August 31. Despite having missed so much time, his ADP in this week's drafts is 94, so it appears plenty of fantasy managers are willing to take a chance on him as a high-upside option without having seen him take the field.
• It's looking as if Le'Veon Bell's hold out could be nearing an end, as it's been reported that he could report to camp after the team's third preseason game. Despite the holdout, Bell's remained rock steady as a top-2 pick in fantasy drafts, and since he's always returned from missed time by performing like a superstar, he's well worth a top pick in drafts.
• After it was looking good about two weeks ago that Eric Ebron was ready to get back to action after injuring his hamstring, he missed today's preseason game, as expected. There's no specific word as to when he'll be ready to play again, but with three full weeks until the Lions have their season opener, it would seem reasonable that he could be ready to go by then. Due to his missed time, his ADP has fallen a few spots- in this week's draft he's now being selected as roughly the 118th pick. Fantasy managers who are confident that he'll return healthy for the regular season will be getting this potential breakout player at a bit of a discount if he's ready a full go to start the season.
• Over in Buffalo, Jordan Matthews did individual work at Sunday's practice as he tries to return from a chest injury. In recent drafts, his ADP's 121, but it's difficult to imagine that he'll be fully integrated into the offense without being able to do much work with the team in the preseason. In addition, it'll also be hard for him to develop chemistry with QB Tyrod Taylor, which makes him a difficult player to trust for fantasy purposes.
• It appears as if Josh McCown could be the Jets' starting QB to start the regular season, since Christian Hackenberg has been ineffective through the first two preseason games. Although McCown didn't play in the second preseason game, the coaching staff was trying to evaluate their younger QBs, so it'll be important to monitor the QB usage in next week's preseason game. McCown would likely have value in leagues that start two QBs, or in very deep leagues, should he get the starting job.
