Piggy-backing on Chris Liss' "non-obvious predictions" for the upcoming season, here are a few of my own:

1) Daryl Richardson wins the battle of the Richardsons

Trent Richardson is everyone's fantasy darling right now, starring in NFL Network commercials about how he's going to carry you to victory, while Daryl Richardson is a guy who's an RB2 afterthought in most leagues. I'll go out on that limb though, and predict Daryl will rack up more fantasy points this season than Trent. The Ram is a better pass catcher, and Jeff Fisher knows how to get the most out of his running backs. Of course Norv Turner also has a bit of a track record when it comes to productive RBs (see: Smith, Emmitt) but Trent hasn't managed to stay healthy for more than about three weeks at a stretch yet in his brief career, and every injury seems to be to his lower body. I say he breaks down again, Daryl hangs onto his job in an improving St. Louis offense, and proves to be the more valuable asset even if you don't account for ADP.

2) Drew Stanton finishes the year as the Cardinals quarterback

I know, I know, it's just the preseason, but Carson Palmer has looked flat out awful in his brief time in Arizona. Meanwhile Stanton, a former second round pick, has been understudying for a few years now and looks ready to finally get his chance. Let's be clear here, I'm not saying Palmer will get hurt. I'm saying he's done, and will play his way out of a job after throwing 10 combined picks against the Niners and Seahawks over back-to-back weeks, and the Cards will come out of their bye with Stanton under center. He'll even do well enough down the stretch to become the organization's latest in a long line of QBs of the future.

3) Kansas City will win the AFC West

OK, now I've clearly lost my mind. How can the thoroughly mediocre Chiefs possibly topple the mighty Peyton Manning-led Broncos? Here's how: a former first overall pick at QB in Alex Smith, who finally finds himself in an offense geared to his strengths and has a solid array of weapons in Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and Dexter McCluster (who'll be a terror as a West Coast offense slot guy) at his disposal; a defense that features difference-makers at all three levels if Eric Berry stays healthy; and a new coach in Andy Reid who's got a history of getting great regular season performances out of his squads. If they can simply split their season series against Denver and make hay in their weak sister games (they get the Bills and Browns, while the Broncos get the Patriots and Ravens), I think they've got a real shot at the division crown.
